It is so hard to believe that it was in December 2013 when we launched a powerful monthly worship service that just a few months later became known as “Recharge.” We started this service out in the Sanctuary and eventually moved it into the Ministry Activity Center. In September 2015, the service went to a weekly worship service instead of monthly. The support and prayers of the Recharge Committee have been instrumental in this worship service becoming something unique and different from Sunday worship services. It is truly something that I believe everyone should experience at least once.
It was almost eight years ago when I found myself going through a very difficult and stressful time in life. I would attend church on Sunday mornings and leave feeling great. Then life would happen and by midweek I was emotionally, mentally, and spiritually empty. I was in need of something to recharge myself. I actually used the example with a friend that by midweek I felt like a cordless phone that had not been connected to a power source for a while and that I needed to recharge. He invited me to attend a midweek service at a non-denominational church. I was in love with it the very first time I went.
Friends, that worship service I attended with my friend changed my life. It gave me a more powerful outlook on life, and I found that I was not getting tired as easily. Honestly speaking, my productivity and energy increased as I grew closer to God. A closeness that was second to nothing. The closeness that I believe we were created to have with God.
Through prayer and discernment we brought the idea of having this type of service to Cypress United Methodist Church. A few people got together and began to pray over the service and before we knew it, one of those people said the service we were creating should be called “Recharge.” We went to the dictionary and found that the definition of the word recharge is to regain energy or spirit, to inspire or invigorate afresh. That was what God was calling us to do, and Recharge Worship was born.
This service, while I am no longer at a non-denominational church, is still a major part of my own spiritual journey and it is proving to be the same for so many others. It is Spirit led and very music driven in the offering of our praise to God. There will be anywhere between six to nine songs in a service, a time for reflection, private prayer, communion available when you feel led, friends willing to pray with you if needed, and a short homily (a relevant and applicable message that is about ten minutes in length). Grab your coffee, come as you are, and worship however you like (sit, stand, kneel, dance, whatever you want).
My hope and prayer for you is that you too may experience the power of Recharge. If you have never attended one before, then this is the perfect time to do so. Please join us this Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 7 PM for worship that just may change your life and your relationship with God! We will have coffee and hot chocolate ready. If you have any questions, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org I look forward to seeing you there!
