Christianity 101; Why Christianity?

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Then Jesus said, come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

The anti-theist says, Not only is there no God, but those who believe in God are dangerously deluded dogmatists who should be pushed out of the social dialogue.

You can be sure that someone you know is giving anti-theism real consideration for their life.

There are more people than you realize who have a twinkle, twinkle attitude toward Christianity … and what is particularly telling is the critique that they make about Jesus.

Very few people question that Jesus is real. But is Jesus relevant? That’s the argument.

So what do we do with Harris and Dawkins and Hitchens? What’s the compelling word of defense that we can offer?

Is Jesus still relevant? We could answer that this way – Is _______________________ still relevant?

The seemingly worst things are never the last things. Frederick Buechner

In Hebrew 6:19, the author looks at Jesus and writes, We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul …

Dallas Willard says this same thing in another way – I ‘have found God’s address. It is at the end of my rope.’

Or how about this question: is Jesus still relevant? It depends – is healing still relevant?

According to the Scriptures, the word for healing comes from the same Greek term from which we get the word ____________________________.

To call Jesus Savior is the same thing as calling him Healer.

Maybe the question we need to push the most is: Is Jesus still relevant? It depends – is ______________________ still relevant?

Jesus is not only the perfect human; Jesus is the perfecting human – the reminder of how were created to be; the reaffirmation of what we are to become.

It is our humanity that Jesus seeks to awaken and rescue by running the full length of life with us. That’s the significance of Jesus.

As long as healing, as long as hope, and as long as humanity are all relevant to us, Jesus will be as well.

Answers: Hope, Saved, Humanity
